Spring Break in T-Town

Got to start off Spring Break right with a little get-away in the city with my husband. Why is that an apartment you are at Mr.Hicks? No, but it is the largest hotel room I have ever stayed in at the Mayo Hotel in Tulsa. I think this 'room' was about 700 square feet.

My attempt at making a cake pop. Not quite the cutey little chick in the picture, more like a fathead overweight chicken with creepy eyes.

It wouldn't be spring break now without a little Elmo's Healthy Hero's action. Gone are the days of beaches of Padre or Cancun, we have traded that all in for Sesame Street. Carson & Kaleb did love it though, I have to say it was pretty stinking cute...At intermission she kept wanting to give Elmo a hug. Cardboard Elmo was a good alternative to a huge in person Elmo, Lord she flipped when she saw Mickey Mouse in person a few weeks ago. I was half afraid she would have been permanently damaged if Elmo was 7 feet tall in front of her.

Really was a great week, got to spend a lot of good quality time with my family & nephew, my cousin Jessica, got to see 3 of my ZTA gals including my fabulous ZTA Twin Jennifer.

I also go to try several new Tulsa restaurants, or maybe they aren't new but with chicks this little the dining out experience has been severely amputated... I have to admit the older I get the more food snobby I become, but I have to give kuddos that all the places we tried this trip held their own. So here are my foodie reviews...In the Raw- albeit slightly too oily by far the LARGEST serving of vege tempura I have ever had anywhere, decent wine selection and a killer eel roll, Soma's- ambiance was only ok the night we were there and it would help if you have waitstaff that knew wine but I'm sure the patio is great in the spring, Rooftop Patio- just a bar on the top of the Mayo but most amazing view of Tulsa, Wolfgang Puck Bistro- butternut squash soup and curried chicken salad were top notch, Our waiter was very familiar with the varieties of wine and made great recommendations--5 star both food & service. My new favorite Tulsa spot., Smashburger--Dallas has one in the trendy Uptown area, however, I would get starred down like a gal with 80's bangs if I were to bring 2 small children there and ruin the folks with hangovers enjoying lunch. But the rosemary fries were great, recommend over the sweet potato fries. And finished the week off with my second favorite Elote, located downtown Tulsa although you'd think you were straight up in Austin given the hipster scene and the fact that everything served there is organic and locally grown. (I also learned over Spring Break how to properly use that term, hipster, thanks Kel...). Margaritas were made simple with fresh lime juice and tequlia. That one for sure will be making the rotation of stops.
Not quite a South Padre island Spring Break. But good times, and I remember a whole lot more.

I hope you are easily able to spot hipster now!
