So my youngest brother Michael has always known how to steal the show, after all he was born on Mother's Day. But it really was the end of an era, an era my parents are quite blissful about.
Education and a college degree was my dad's #1 priority since the time I built my net worth of $35 by 8 years old- one dime at time with the words 'I'll buy you a car and send you to college if you pull my boots off.' Followed by a dime for my piggy bank. Well dad, you raised 2 out of 3 over-achievers. I am now the official loser of the clan by not have a fancy master's degree from a private university.
I am so happy and proud of Michael, and Kenny, for pursuing their masters though. Jason went to MBA school when we were first married, but it wasn't all that difficult 'cutting back' at 24 with no kids and 1 fulltime income.
Kenny did it while married and a had a son. Michael did it single. I just think that's awesome.
After 16 consecutive years of having a child a college, 3 OU (BOOMER!) diplomas later, 2 SMU MBA's (Jason gets counted as an official kid after 9 years of marriage), and 1 University of Tulsa master's later...My parents can FINALLY say that all of their children are out of college. Frankly, I am so proud for them. My dad has his degree from NSU, a small regional school in Oklahoma, and mom has her associates degree from Tulsa Junior College and both have had successful careers without fancy degrees, but I know it's been a huge source of pride to feel like their children did more than they did, education-wise.
Michael has to graduate on his 27th BIRTHDAY. So party on family, party on....and party on we did...
Carson was screaming 'Uncle MICHAEL!!' at the top of her lungs at the ceremony. Michael was quick to be a little 'too cool' to ever glance up at the crowd where he knew we were sitting...Dad kept threatening to shout 'BOOMER!' at the top of his lungs..
To my left, we have Michael's dream girl on his present....or maybe a leftover bag from Caroline's birthday--you be the judge.
Jason the creepy dude in the background...
Cheers to All with a round of Mexican Martinis!
A well deserved celebrating night at Javier's!! To graduation, birthdays, and Mother's Day..But most of all--just true and honest praise to God for a healthy family that isn't perfect, but we have love and health....and cigars to celebrate them both. Cheers and Happy Mother's Day.
A momma's love. God, I am so blessed to have my mom.
